The Winneshiek County government ballots continue to develop as both new candidates and officials seeking re-election come forward.
The county's three elected department heads, from the sheriff's department, the treasurer's office and the county auditor's office, are all seeking re-election.
Sheriff Dan Marx has been in his position since April 1, 2015, and County Treasurer Brenda Kreitzer has been in position since last October, though she's been with the treasurer's office for nearly three decades.
Winneshiek County Auditor Ben Steines told Decorah News that he is in the process of collecting signatures.
"I was first elected as auditor in 2008. Over the last 11 and a half years I have served the residents of Winneshiek County with integrity, honesty, and dedication," Steines told Decorah News. "Along with my excellent staff, we provide friendly and efficient service to all residents, employees, and other elected officials of the County. I would appreciate the opportunity to continue in the public service role as the Winneshiek County Auditor."
County Supervisors Dean Thompson and John Logsdon, from Districts 3 and 4 respectively, will not be seeking re-election this year.
In District 3, Darrin Walter (R) and Shilrey Vermace (D) have expressed intent to run for the supervisor position. In District 4, Caite Palmer, a fifth-generation family farmer, has announced her candidacy through a Facebook page.
Meanwhile, in District 5, Supervisor Mark Kuhn is up for re-election, but has not publicly announced an intent to seek another term.
Candidates seeking an elected position in the Winneshiek County government must file nomination papers no later than March 25.
