Winneshiek County farmers are being compelled by Winneshiek County Development and Tourism to participate in a new program that is coined the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP), according to Decorah News.

CFAP was created to help farmers and producers who have suffered losses due to the COVID-19 crisis. The newly created program is spearheaded through the USDA FSA office.

The USDA website notes that due to the coronavirus, many farmers have been greatly impacted by the shutdowns. The shutdowns caused many processing plants to stop production. Many farmers across the state were forced to watch their crops rot.

According to the CFAP website, farmers and ranchers whose operations were hindered by the coronavirus pandemic are eligible for the program.

CFAP vows to provide vital financial aid to farmers and producers who have suffered a 5% loss or who had losses due to the recent supply chain interruptions due to the coronavirus crisis.
