After it failed to prove how its request to pull millions of gallons of water from the Jordan Aquifer would help Iowa residents, Pattison Sand Co. was denied its permit with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), according to The Gazette.
The mining company hoped to take water from the Jordan Aquifer and send it to other states. Pattison said it would drill a well at the Mississippi River, use tank cars to transport water and sell it to Water Train, a company in Oregon that distributes water to other states like Utah and Arizona that have been hit with a drought.
Still, DNR refused to give the OK. Its Water Supply Engineering supervisor, Mark Moeller, told The Gazette, “Pattison has failed to supply the department with sufficient information regarding the beneficial use of the requested water.”
This marks the third time Pattison has filed a similar permit in the state.
