Mother Nature has wreaked havoc on two Iowa counties last month after a severe storm system tore through the area.
Gov. Kim Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation for Fayette and Van Buren counties, which allows state resources to be used to respond to storm damage in the area.
The proclamation also activates the state individual assistance grant program for qualifying residents. It also implements the Disaster Case Management Program for the two affected counties.
To qualify for the grant up to $5,000, households with a maximum annual income of $43,440 and incomes up to 200% of the federal poverty level are eligible. Grants can be used for car or home repairs as well as replacement of clothing or food, and temporary housing expenses. Those applying for the grant must submit their receipts. The grant applications are available on the Iowa Department of Human Services website.
