This year will be the Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation's 25th year participating in the Christmas adoption program.
The program helps local families manage the holidays by giving them a sponsor, Decorah News reported.
Families who participate in the program have to have children that are 18 or younger and must submit a wish list for clothing sizes, genders, hobbies and interests of the kids.
The sponsor will then use this information to purchase gifts for the family and drop them off at the Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation building. All personal information is kept confidential.
"It is heartwarming to see the generosity of those in our communities and the joy that it brings to each family. There are many families in our community who benefit from this program – not only does it help alleviate the financial stress but it also allows them to keep the spirit of the holidays upbeat for their children," program coordinator Rebecca Phillips told Decorah News.
