Officials in western Iowa have announced that it is now required that residents wear face masks in public due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Meanwhile, Fayette and adjacent counties have not made face masks mandatory despite rising cases.
According to KETV, the Harrison County Board recently approved the mandatory mask mandate in a 2-1 vote.
Supervisor John Straight said the mandatory mask mandate is a very hot issue.
“It’s really a hot issue, and it is hard,” Straight said. “It was hard on us today.”
Supervisor Janell Bradley, vice-chair of the board in a press release said the Fayette County Board of Health has not sought the Fayette County Board of Supervisors endorsement on their recommendation regarding face masks.
“Our (Board of Supervisors) did similarly, months ago, recommend the wearing of face masks by anyone who cannot social distance when we reopened the courthouse for business," Bradley said.
