The colder weather has pushed the Northeast Iowa Food Bank to once again allow patrons inside to get food.
The food bank has only offered curbside pickup for months as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, they've implemented new safety measures to allow meals to be served indoors once again. These include: Enforcing mask wearing, social distancing and putting tape on the floor to direct the traffic flow.
"The number one goal of the food bank is to make sure that people, when they come, they get the food that they need, but also that it's done in a safe manner," Barbara Prather, NEIA Food Bank executive director, told KWWL.
Curbside services will continue until Friday, Nov. 20, then all meals will be served indoors allowing patrons to pick the meal they'd like to eat instead of having a preprepared bag.
Prather said as the inside of the food pantry reopens, they'll need more volunteers which have been in short supply since the start of the pandemic.
