City of Oelwein issued the following announcement on August 25.
Due to last night’s storm, the City will pick up residential tree storm damage. The direction and time of the of the pickup will be determined by the City. The storm debris must be taken to the curb under the following conditions:
*Large debris should be cut into maximum 10-foot lengths. Stacked so it does not present a safety hazard for the general public. Stacked so it does not block sidewalks, driveways, or roadways. The debris must be on City right of way property as they will not be removed from private property or out of any alleys.
*The stacked area must be clear of parked vehicles and easily accessible for the equipment.
*The City will make two passes through each of the four quadrants. We will begin to pick up debris starting in the following order: SE, NE, NW and finishing in the SW.
*If you did not have your debris out in time it is your responsibility to dispose of it.
*If you wish more timely removal, the City yard waste site located in the 400 block of 7th Ave SW is open 24/7 for Oelwein residents. Be patient as the yard waste site is seeing a lot of traffic.
We appreciate everyone who is helping to clear debris.
