New year, new name and locations for Gundersen regional ambulance service

Gundersenambulance

Palmer Lutheran Health Center recently issued the following announcement.

Patients and communities served by Gundersen Health System will soon experience improved ambulance service and see a new name and look on vehicles.

Gundersen Tri-State Regional Ambulance is now Gundersen Health System Ambulance. In addition to its current locations in West Union, Iowa and Prairie Du Chien, Wis., Gundersen Health System Ambulance adds new locations in Richland Center and Tomah, Wis., soon, with an additional location planned for Winona, Minn. The new locations will provide interfacility, hospital-to-hospital transport for patients needing up to critical care services.

Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance, which provides 911 and interfacility ambulance service to the greater La Crosse Area, will continue current services under its current name.

“The name change to Gundersen Health System Ambulance connects the high-quality care and services we provide and our great patient outcomes more directly to Gundersen Health System,” said Clinical Operations Director Tom Tornstrom. “At the same time, adding the new patient transport locations will reduce wait times for patients at Gundersen Critical Access Hospitals and improve efficiency for staff.”

Together, Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance and Gundersen Health System Ambulance will have nine locations staffed 24/7 by the end of 2022. The new locations will have one critical care ambulance staffed 24/7 and will be for patient transfers only. The ambulances in Richland Center, Tomah and Winona will not respond to 911 calls. These areas already have reliable 911 ambulance services.

The new Richland Center location is expected to open mid-January, while the Tomah location is scheduled to open late January or early February. The Winona location will open later in 2022.

The Gundersen Health System Ambulance rebrand will take time and will include changes to ambulance design, signage, printed materials, and more.

Serving the region since 1968, Gundersen ambulance services provide the most advanced pre-hospital patient care to tens of thousands of patients every year, covering an area of more than 3,000 square miles.
