Now Hiring: Building Official/Zoning Administrator

The City of Oelwein is looking for a team-oriented, self-motivated, totally awesome,

sharp-eyed, knowledgeable individual to lead the Community Development Department.

The ideal candidate for the city:

• Must possess strong public relations skills and strong written and verbal communication skills

• Applies high ethical standards, such as honesty, responsibility, and trustworthiness, at all times

• Has experience building homes or working as a contractor

• Has worked for or as an electrician, plumber, or HVAC professional

• Has a basic understanding of site plans, building plans, and architectural drawings

• Is comfortable with smartphones, computers and software including basic Microsoft applications

• Has basic knowledge of local government

The City will invest heavily in this person and position by:

• Sending the employee to courses focused on the International Building Code,

International Maintenance Code, and other codes that the city follows

• Providing a professional memberships to organizations that promote and provide training

in building codes

• Providing introductory courses to zoning in a local government setting

• Providing time to study to obtain professional licensesure from the International Code

Council

The City will expect this position to become certified in International Code Council Residential

Building Inspection.
